Jim Grogan Countryside and Wildlife Award - 2012

The 2012 Award, the second, has been presented to Becky Cheadle.

Certificate painted by Barry Hillier, Trustee.

He announced that Becky Cheadle of Year 3 had been judged the 2012 winner and he read out the citation that will be fixed in the commemorative book.Click to see the citation

Andrew Davies said that there was a need to keep the book both secure and permanently visible to the school and visitors.  Following discussions with the Trust it had been decided to commission the design and construction of an oak cabinet with the cost being met by some specific donations.  Construction had been undertaken by Brownlow Cabinet Makers of Great Barrow who delivered it in their period van (below) and carried it into the school hall.

The cabinet’s permanent position is in the school’s entrance foyer and 2012 winner, Becky, stands next to it with her plaque.

Stuart Exell, Chairman of the Trustees said how pleased he was that the school was making such good use of the woodland.

On Tuesday, July 17th 2012 there was a special whole school assembly at Tarvin Primary School.  Also present were members of the Grogan family, Woodland Trustees, staff from Brownlow Furniture and Andrew Brown, bookbinder.

Headmaster Andrew Davies introduced the proceedings by outlining what the school had been doing related to woodland over the previous year; walks, sport, science projects, Forest School with Broomheath Plantation and much more.

Sheila Grogan (above) presented Becky with the certificate, a 2012 commemorative plaque and a book token.

Local craftsman, Nick Allwood, standing on the left, built the cabinet from solid oak.  He was a pupil at Barrow Primary and Christleton Schools.

Becky and father, Tom, talking to the Trust’s Secretary, Charles Bradley, who had coordinated the arrangements.
