** Our Cheshire West and Chester Councillors, John Leather and Hugo Deynam, have given £574 for the purchase of a 13 h.p. petrol driven chipper / shredder. It comes from their Members Budget Award scheme.
As the woodland develops, it requires more and more maintenance like coppicing hazels and other trees. This activity leaves piles of “brash”. The brash can be left in piles to provide habitat where small mammals, hedgehogs and insects can thrive, thus enhancing the food chain. Eventually the piles will rot and return to the soil. However, it is becoming apparent that the woodland can support only so many habitat piles before the appearance is compromised. The chipper is proving to be an effective way of dealing with the brash.
Thank you, Councillors
